PgC Overview

All of the OCQ(V) training has been successfully accredited by the European School of Veterinary Postgraduate Studies (ESVPS) and the awards have been validated by Harper Adams University.

Candidates undertaking a number of the OCQ(V)s may choose to gain valuable and transferable university credits as follows;

OCQ(V)

Description

Level 5 Credits

TT Tuberculosis Testing 5
SS Statutory Surveillance 5
SX Export of Companion Animals and Birds 5
UX Export of Ungulates 5
AX Export of Poultry 5
PX Export of Products of Animal Origin 5
GX Export of Germplasm 5

On successful completion of a minimum of four level 5 modules (from within the OV programme as above) and completion of a technical report, the 20 level 5 credits can be upgraded to 20 credits at level 7.

These credits can then be used towards a Postgraduate Certificate (PgC) which comprises 60 credits at level 7.

There will be an additional charge of £50.00 payable to Harper Adams University for each 5 credit module.

Candidates can choose to do an elective module of their choice relevant to any aspect of state medicine to gain a further 20 credits at level 7.  Finally by gaining the ‘Advanced Practitioner’ module which is run by Harper Adams University, another 20 credits can be achieved, leading to the award of PgC in Veterinary State Medicine.

Candidates gaining this award can also apply to the RCVS for ‘Advanced Practitioner’ status.

Alternatively the 20 credits at level 7 may be used toward another PgC.

Can we put in a bit more description as to what technical report, Elective Module and Advanced Practitioner will involve? Should we mention the costs here? Or who to contact ffi.?

Add a quote from Simon Hall or CVO here?

* OCQ(V)’s ES and EX do not carry the University credits
